After serving for 27 years as MNA President and, at one time held the role of Interim President of the Métis National Council (MNC), President Poitras is retiring. Last Saturday, Métis Nation of Alberta President Audrey Poitras announced that she would not be running in the next MNA provincial election. The MNC would like to thank President Poitras for her years of service to the Métis Nation and is wishing her all the best in her retirement. President Poitras has been a leader for the Métis people, dedicating her life to advancing Métis priorities. The MNC wishes to recognize all that she has done in building a brighter future for the Métis Nation and bringing us so many steps closer to the vision of self-government.

"Upon the announcement of her retirement, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to President Poitras for her dedication and contributions to the Métis Nation over 27 years. In addition to all that she has accomplished, President Poitras, as the first Métis woman to be elected as President of any Métis Government, has paved the way for women in leadership like myself and I am grateful to her for that. The Métis Nation is One Nation of Many Stories, and President Poitras has helped to create and shape many of the great stories of the Nation, the MNC is so grateful for everything she has done," shared President Caron.
